Fall is the most exciting time to be on a farm – gorgeous weather, an incredible bounty of food, and a slower rhythm to the work. This fall is even more exciting than usual, because we’ve just launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise money for our first ever piece of equipment, the BCS. A BCS is a walk-behind tractor designed for small farmers. It is the perfect tool for our scale, and we couldn’t be more excited about all the possibilities it opens up for us. Using the BCS and a variety of implements, we’ll be able to build raised beds, double crop, till the soil, incorporate compost, mow and turn in cover crop, and lots more. The BCS will help us to grow more food more efficiently and continue to build our soil fertility.
So once again, we’re turning to our incredible community for help. Community is a word that gets tossed around a lot, but at First Root, it’s truly how we roll. From the get-go, we’ve been supported by many fantastic folks. Farming is hard and rewarding work. We are so lucky to be doing it surrounded by people so invested in our success.
